Well...it's an average of 102 degrees here! We've been so hot at night. Yesterday we toured around Rabat and saw the beach, Old Medina, King's Palace, U.S Embassy. The one thing that all of us are a little shocked about is the lack of garbage disposal. There are no garbage cans to be found and trash everywhere. But then again, every place has it's positive and negatives. You will be right next to a bunch of garbage and then turn your head and see a beautiful 12th century fortress. After our tour of Rabat, we had an orientation at our school Qalam that I will be attending for the next 5 weeks. I actually met a student there who is studying Arabic on his own and will be attending college with me this Fall. Small world to run into a future classmate halfway across the world! I went to the ATM and had to figure out my U.S to Dirham conversion because tomorrow we leave for Fez which has a lot of shopping. I need to get some gifts for family and friends! I will upload pictures next week of Fez!
U.S State Department Critical Language Scholarship. My six week adventure learning Arabic, living with a host family, and discovering Moroccan culture. Let the stories begin!

First few days
Below I posted some photos of the camp/dorm we are staying at till we move in with our host families. I posted a picture of a dish we had last night called Beef Tangine with dates. We are living off of bottled water because we can't drink the water here. It's so hot here, all of us can't sleep too well.

NYC
Today I'm leaving NYC, flying out of JFK to Madrid. I got here Friday afternoon for our weekend orientation at Columbia University. I love this campus and wouldn't mind grad school here! I was able to meet up with my Uncle Chris and cousin last night who live here, great to catch up with family. Yesterday we had an all day orientation at the Riverside Church, it's this historic and gorgeous church on the Upper West Side. I've posted some pictures of the church and of the campus, enjoy! P.S-I'm completely new to this whole blogging thing, I hope to improve over the next 6 weeks.
